Various of debris outside of home STORYLINE: Bahamians are taking relief efforts into their own hands as they wait to see how the government will help survivors of Hurricane Dorian, which hit more than two weeks ago as a Category 5 storm. Louis Cornish, a survivor in Grand Abaco, said that some women in the community had been chosen to cook and supply islanders with food. But thousands of people like Cornish remain in limbo as nonprofit groups await direction and local government officials determine what specific steps to take. Debris and broken branches still litter the lawns of clapboard houses while streets are piled high with trash. The hurricane killed at least 50 people and forced the evacuation of nearly 5,000 others. Disaster relief leaders have said there are thousands in shelters, and it is difficult to estimate how long it will take to find them a more permanent refuge. The storm hit on September 1 with winds of 185 mph and flooding that reached 25 feet high in some areas. =========================================================== Clients are reminded: (i) to check the terms of their licence agreements for use of content outside news programming and that further advice and assistance can be obtained from the AP Archive on: Tel +44 (0) 20 7482 7482 Email: [email protected] (ii) they should check with the applicable collecting society in their Territory regarding the clearance of any sound recording or performance included within the AP Television News service (iii) they have editorial responsibility for the use of all and any content included within the AP Television News service and for libel, privacy, compliance and third party rights applicable to their Territory.
