It's been a while since I played this game and got a 1.0 update. So I ascend Maggie, I thought it will give you superior spell or upgraded spell but it doesn't. They just change your signature spell into different one. For Maggie, Vengeful Sprout his new starting spell this is Bryony signature spell. They should've change Maggie Aurora Wings into Stingray, Dragon something like that to make it more interesting.
