Mix serves as the Chief Nurse Officer for the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) Commissioned Corps. In this capacity, RADM Mix advises the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Surgeon General on the recruitment, assignment, deployment, retention, and career development of nurse professionals and provides leadership to more than 4,000 active duty nurse officers and civilian nurses. With 27 years in nursing, RADM Mix is an experienced clinician, public health practitioner, educator, and emergency manager. She is currently detailed to the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). As the Senior Health Policy Administrator, she is the leading health policy professional at ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC) and manages a team focused on the enhancement of health care delivery within IHSC facilities. RADM Mix has also held positions within HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration and Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response where she designed programs and developed policy to improve access to health and human services for underserved and at-risk populations. RADM Mix is a board-certified National Healthcare Disaster Professional and graduated with her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Nursing from Hampton University. She completed her Master of Public Health degree at Johns Hopkins University and received her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, with a focus on educational leadership, from Case Western Reserve University. She remains connected to nursing education with contributing faculty appointments at the Uniformed Services University and Walden University. Throughout her career RADM Mix has served as a consummate advocate for nurses, the nursing profession, and public health with a commitment to protecting, promoting, and advancing the health and safety of the nation.
