Trains at... Chelmsford Chelmsford Station is located in the City of Chelmsford in Essex, the original Chelmsford Station was constructed in 1843 by the Eastern Counties Railway and featured a small ticket office and two wooden platforms on an 18-arch brick viaduct. The station served trains travelling to Colchester and London Liverpool Street. In 1885, Chelmsford Station was rebuilt by Great Eastern Railway so it could accommodate longer trains serving Ipswich, Clacton-on-Sea, Lowestoft and Norwich. The new Station received new brick pathed platforms aswell as a new three story ticket office and waiting room. A new signal box was also constructed on top of the station... The current Chelmsford Station was built around the original in 1985 and has been incorporated into one of the viaducts brick arches. In 2016, the station was fitted with new staircases and lifts on the London bound platform. Today the station is served and managed by Greater Anglia who operate services along the entire Great Eastern Main Line.
