NEWS: Saka Yuta, featured in this video, took on the name of Saka Koraizaemon XIV on June 23, 2022! Congratulations!! Hagi ware refers to pottery produced in the Hagi City area of Yamaguchi Prefecture. Among the many kilns in the area, the following kiln has handed down its name for generations as the official kiln of the Hagi domain. "Saka Koraizaemon Kiln" As introduced in this video, this kiln was founded by Ri Kei, considered the founder of Hagi ware. Saka Koraizaemon XII (1949-2004) breathed new life into the pottery world of Hagi by applying Japanese paintings, his specialty, to Hagi ware handed down through the Saka family. *Quoted from the Hagi City Tourism Association: https://www.hagishi.com/search/detail... Miwa Kyusetsu Kiln The 10th generation Miwa Kyusetsu (1927-1967) began creating pottery with a beautiful white glaze known as "Kyusetsu White," marking a new chapter in the history of Hagi ware. The 10th generation Miwa Kyusetsu (Kyuwa) and his younger brother, the 11th generation Miwa Kyusetsu (Jusetsu, 1967-2003), have been designated Living National Treasures. Sakakura Shinbei Kiln This kiln was founded by Rishakkou, who, along with Rishakkou, is considered the founder of Hagi ware. The 12th generation Sakakura Shinbei (1881-1960) possessed exceptional skill and is known as the founder of Hagi ware.
