Caoineadh Johnny Sheáin Jeaic by Duncan Chisholm
This beautiful lament was written by my friend Allan MacDonald. The second part for me is reminiscent of Gaelic keening and the melodic construction is truly magnificent and unique. "Nuair Bhios Mi Leam Fhin' is a Gaelic song taught to me by Allan MacDonald. Every time I play this tune I hear Allan's voice and try to replicate it. I wrote 'The Hill of the High Byre' while producing the 'Farrar' album. With Beinn a' Bha Ach Ard in Glen Strathfarrar being my focus throughout the writing and recording process it seemed fitting that I would write a tune inspired by the mountain itself. The track is performed live on this clip, accompanied by a core traditional band and a string / brass ensemble." Live from Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow - an exclusive concert commissioned by the Celtic Connections Festival. This concert was recorded and Duncan subsequently released his award winning 'Live at Celtic Connections' album.
