MAZDA CX-5 2026 e-SKYACTIV-G | SUV-C ICE MHEV | CONTACTO | revistadelmotor.es

Mazda has opted for a coherent evolution in the new CX-5, focused on improving what already worked. The result is a more mature, more refined, and above all, more complete SUV for real-world use. Design: Continuity with a More Presence The Kodo design language remains the foundation. The CX-5 gains presence without losing elegance, something not easy in such a saturated segment. The front end is now taller and more robust, with a more pronounced grille and a sharper light signature. At the rear, the most visible change is the disappearance of the traditional logo in favor of a more contemporary “MAZDA” typeface. Interior: More Space and Better Design If there's one clear leap forward in this CX-5, it's in the interior. Mazda has worked on the Japanese concept of “Ma,” which emphasizes the balance of space and a sense of calm. The increased wheelbase translates directly into more space for rear passengers, with tangible improvements in legroom and headroom. Access has also been improved with wider doors, something that is greatly appreciated in everyday life—and especially for family use. The trunk has grown to 583 liters, and exceeds 2,000 liters with the seats folded down. This is a significant leap that reinforces its practicality. In terms of materials and finishes, Mazda remains true to form. It doesn't aim to impress with gimmicks, but rather with perceived quality and durability. From fabric upholstery to genuine leather in the higher trims, everything conveys solidity and attention to detail. Technology: now at the level we expected It debuts a new electronic architecture that improves processing speed, connectivity, and updateability. The central screen, which can reach up to 15.6 inches, becomes the heart of the system. The interface is more intuitive, faster, and closer to what we already use in our daily lives. The key leap is the integration of Google. Not as an add-on, but as a core part of the system. Google Maps, voice assistant, and app access make the car a natural extension of the user's digital ecosystem. Added to this is a well-designed digital instrument cluster, head-up display, and a sound system that, in the higher trims, features BOSE. All in all, the CX-5 is no longer a step behind and is clearly part of the current conversation. Mechanics: A Coherent, Not Radical, Approach The CX-5 uses a 2.5-liter e-Skyactiv G gasoline engine with 141 hp, supported by a 24V mild-hybrid system. It's a configuration that seeks balance: sufficient performance for daily use, with low fuel consumption and an ECO label. The figures are clear: around 7.0 l/100 km in front-wheel drive and 7.5 l/100 km in AWD versions. These aren't record-breaking figures, but they are realistic and consistent with the car's design. More interesting is how it handles. The increased displacement improves torque delivery at low and mid-range RPMs, making driving smoother and less demanding. The engine response is linear, without any artificiality, something increasingly rare. The six-speed automatic transmission has been recalibrated to offer smoother shifts, and the system benefits from cylinder deactivation, which helps reduce fuel consumption under low load conditions. Driving: More Refinement, Same Philosophy The CX-5 continues to focus on that connection between car and driver that Mazda defines as “Jinba Ittai.” But now it does so with a more comfortable approach. The suspension has been revised, with adjustments aimed at improving bump absorption without sacrificing stability. The steering is more precise, and sound insulation has been noticeably improved. It's not a sporty SUV, nor does it pretend to be. But it does offer a natural, predictable, and very enjoyable driving experience for everyday use. Furthermore, it maintains interesting practical capabilities, such as the option of all-wheel drive or towing up to 2,000 kg. Safety: Useful, Unobtrusive Technology The CX-5 incorporates a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems, backed by a five-star Euro NCAP rating. Beyond the list of systems, what's relevant is how they work: discreetly and effectively. From automatic emergency braking to traffic alerts and the 360° monitor, everything is designed to assist without unduly interfering with driving. Price and Positioning Mazda hasn't provided specific figures in this document, but it does make its strategy clear: to offer competitive value for money with a high level of equipment even in the entry-level versions. The range is structured in four trim levels—Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Exclusive-Line, and Homura—that allow for upgrades in comfort, technology, and refinement without sacrificing coherence.
