St Paul’s Service (Herbert Howells): St Paul’s Cathedral 1978 (Barry Rose)
From a live BBC radio broadcast from St Paul’s Cathedral London, 20 December 1978, with the choir of St Paul’s Cathedral, directed by Barry Rose, and Christopher Dearnley (organ). Because of the season in which it was performed, the Magnificat is preceded and followed by the antiphon “O dayspring, brightness of light everlasting.” Herbert Howells composed this setting of the Evening canticles in October 1951. This upload is part of our 125th Anniversary tribute to Howells - please read the press release for further details : http://ymlp.com/zQKEBO
