On May 6, 2026, in Jakarta, the government, through Bappenas (National Development Planning Agency), officially signed a strategic partnership with European aerospace giant Airbus. Through the Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI), Indonesia paves the way for deeper penetration into the global aircraft industry supply chain. The targets are significant: from strengthening the components industry, developing world-class human resources, to elevating PT Dirgantara Indonesia to become a Tier 1 supplier. In fact, there are discussions about building an Airbus aircraft factory in Indonesia, with Kertajati being the preferred location. If realized, this could be a major leap forward for the national aviation industry! However, on the other hand, less encouraging news has come from Malaysia. The delivery of Naval Strike Missiles (NSM) from Norway has been suddenly blocked, even though the contract has been in place since 2018. This decision has had a major impact on the Maharaja Lela-class warship project, which now requires a change in its weapons system.
