Now comes the heart of this psalm. Seven verses in which David answers the question that every person going through a difficult time asks themselves: does God even see me? Does He care about me? David's answer isn't abstract theology. These are seven concrete statements about how the Almighty relates to each of His creations. Including you. Including the person next to you who is falling right now—and to whom you can forward this lesson. 🧠 PSALM ANALYSIS ACCORDING TO MALBIM Psalm 146:9–15. From kindness to all—to a hand that upholds every fallen one. 9. THE LORD IS GOOD TO ALL, AND HIS MERCY IS OVER ALL HIS WORKS The letter "tet"—טוֹב (tov)—means "good." Notice the word "to all." Not to the righteous. Not to the worthy. Not to those who deserve it. To all. According to Malbim, this is a fundamental statement: God's kindness is not a response to human behavior. It is a quality of God Himself, just as warmth is a quality of fire. The sun does not decide each morning who it will shine upon. It shines because it is the sun. This is a verse worth memorizing and reciting every time your inner voice says, "You don't deserve it." 10. ALL YOUR CREATURES WILL GLORIFY YOU, AND YOUR PIOUS WILL BLESS YOU The letter "yud" (yudukha) means "they will glorify You." According to Malbim, there are two levels here: all creation glorifies God by the very fact of its existence, just as a painting glorifies the artist. But the pious bless consciously, through words, choices, and lives. The difference is enormous: being a witness to God happens automatically. Becoming a voice of blessing is a choice. And this choice is available to everyone who watches this lesson. 11–12. THEY WILL TELL THE GLORY OF THY KINGDOM, AND THEY WILL DECLARE YOUR MIGHT, TO DECLARE TO THE SONS OF MEN HIS MIGHT AND THE GLORIOUS MAGNIFICENCE OF HIS KINGDOM. The letters "kaf" and "lamed." Here lies a direct indication of why the righteous speak of God. Not for themselves. Not for their own spiritual growth. "To declare to the sons of men." According to Malbim, knowledge of God that a person keeps to themselves fails in its purpose. Wisdom, by its very nature, requires transmission. Those who have learned are obligated to share. Those who have seen the Light are obligated to show others the way. This is the reason the "Wisdom of Kings" project exists. And this is the reason the "Share" button below this video is more than just a feature. This is the commandment of verse 12, translated into twenty-first-century language. 13. THY KINGDOM IS A KINGDOM FOR ALL AGES, AND THY DOMINION ENDURES EVERY GENERATION The letter "mem" (malchutkha) means "Thy kingdom." Empires have risen and crumbled. Ideologies that promised eternity have not survived a century. Currencies, armies, dynasties—everything that seemed immutable has vanished. According to Malbim, this verse gives man the only truly stable foundation: God's power is timeless. He who builds his life on this foundation builds on the only thing that will never crumble. 14. THE LORD SUPPORTS ALL WHO FALL AND STRAIGHTENS ALL WHO ARE BENT The letter "samekh" — סוֹמֵךְ (somekh) — "supports." And now for the secret we discussed in the last lesson. In the acrostic of this psalm, the letter "nun" is missing—a hint at the word "nefilah," a fall. David didn't want to give the fall its own verse. But look what he did: immediately after the missing letter of fall comes the letter "samekh," a sign of support. According to Malbim, this isn't just poetry. It's precise spiritual mechanics: a fall exists in human life, and David doesn't deny it. But it doesn't have the right to its own name, its own verse, its own status. *At the very moment the fall begins, support is already in effect.* There is no pause between "nun" and "samekh." There is no pause between your fall and the hand of God.
