Illinois: Mushroom Cooking Disasters | Allergic to Bears Head?!
Hey guys I'm in Illinois this week and found a beautiful flush of Bears Head mushroom! I haven't tried this mushroom in years so I cooked up a small amount to try it out but unfortunately, I got sick from it. This mushroom is usually edible but some people can develop allergies to any edible mushroom. I'm allergic to chantrelles too and I know other people allergic to morels and chicken of the woods. This doesn't mean you should never try this mushroom but please try a small amount if you are trying a new mushroom for the first time. Cook it very well and never try a mushroom you aren't 100% sure about its ID. Join a local mushroom club if you aren't confident in your identification skills.
