The Harrier, developed by Britain in the 1960s, was the world's first practical V/STOL (Vertical/Short Take-Off and Landing) aircraft. Its greatest secret was its "Pegasus engine." By using "thrust vectoring," which changes the direction of the four nozzles on the sides of the fuselage downwards or backwards, it was an innovative attack aircraft capable of taking off and landing like a helicopter without a runway. In combat, due to the need to carry a large amount of weapons, it was operated using the "STOVL" method, taking off after a short runway and landing vertically. During the 1982 Falklands War, despite its slow top speed of Mach 0.9, it overwhelmed enemy supersonic fighters with unconventional maneuvers such as mid-air braking, utilizing thrust vectoring. It proved to the world that it was "slow but powerful."
