Composer: Various - Noted Below ABOUT The Spookslot was a haunted house in Anderrijk that was open from 1978 to 2022. The attraction was built as a castle ruin, with visitors able to watch a performance every 10 minutes in a fully conditioned indoor setting. Through decor, light, music, animatronics, and special effects, the catacombs and cemetery of a monastery came to life during the performance. In the 1980s, the Efteling had managed to bind composer Ruud Bos for Carnival Festival and Fata Morgana. His wife, the famous actress Marjan Berk, once went to the Efteling and thought there were "gaps" in the show,[6]and convinced Ton van de Ven that the program of the Spookslot could be better. She came up with a new introduction that was provided with music by Ruud Bos. Because the operating system had just been replaced in 1987, programming could be done by one person instead of a complex conducting session with dozens of employees. Dré Broeders then reprogrammed the show together with her for three to four days with music chosen by Berk in the introduction. This Birch and Forest show starts with a mix of effects, a light bell, strings and an impressionistic sounding flute. After mysterious effect sounds of a glass harp, the most striking elements of this prelude start, namely harmonious but also very artificial-sounding singing without text, to support the monks. In the background, fragments of orchestral music sound. After closing the door, another impressionistic piece of music with a striking oboe is sounded, after which strings build up the tension to the start of the new Danse Macabre of the Castle: the 1980 recording by Charles Dutoit. However, the Bos/Berk version of the show only served briefly.
