The Church of Hagia Sophia of Thessaloniki (Αγία Σοφία)

The Hagia Sophia Church is one of the most important historical and religious monuments in Thessaloniki. Built in the 8th century during the Byzantine Empire, it was inspired by the famous Hagia Sophia and became a central place of worship. After the Ottoman conquest in 1430, the church was converted into a mosque under the Ottoman Empire. In the early 20th century, it returned to its role as a Christian church. Today, Hagia Sophia stands as a symbol of Thessaloniki’s rich history, reflecting the many cultures and eras that shaped the city.
