eNCA News Bite | Feroz Khan warrant, Suliman Carrim sick note and PIC suspensions | 14 July 2026
It’s Tuesday, 14 July, and this is News Bite with Marcelle Gordon. The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court has issued a warrant of arrest for suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Feroz Khan after he missed his appearance in an alleged illicit precious-metals case. The warrant is stayed until 2 September. Khan, who is out on R20,000 bail, and co-accused Ebrahim Kadwa (https://www.enca.com/news-top-stories...) are also waiting for key case files from the State. At the Madlanga Commission, North West businessman Suliman Carrim is unlikely to testify on Wednesday as he remains in treatment outside Gauteng. His lawyers are expected to submit another medical report. The South African Medical Association says concerns about possible abuse of sick notes must be addressed without undermining the medical profession. UK authorities say blunt-force trauma caused the deaths of three victims in the Bedfordshire triple-murder case. (https://www.enca.com/news-top-stories...) Ndodana Tshuma, arrested in South Africa, is accused of killing his wife and two daughters before leaving Britain. He will first face a local unlicensed-firearm charge before extradition proceedings can begin. The PIC board has suspended CEO Patrick Dlamini (https://www.enca.com/business-top-sto...) and Chief Investment Officer August van Heerden while allegations in a whistleblower report are investigated. Leon Smit has been appointed acting CEO. Western Cape police are investigating an alleged extortion-linked shooting at a Franschhoek spaza shop. Two wounded men later died in hospital and no arrests have been made. In business, the Competition Commission has recommended approval of Harith’s acquisition of FlySafair, on condition that all airlines are treated fairly at Lanseria International Airport. De Beers also plans to pause mining at Venetia for two years as weak Chinese demand and lab-grown diamonds weigh on prices. The mine accounts for about 40% of South Africa’s diamond production (https://www.enca.com/business/de-beer...) and 10% of De Beers’ global rough-diamond output. SPORT SA Rugby will review its ticket-pricing strategy (https://www.enca.com/sport-top-storie...) after fan backlash and slow sales forced price cuts for the Springboks’ England Test at Ellis Park. Rassie Erasmus has paid tribute to footballer Jayden Adams and young rugby player Luqobo “Bibo” Makwedini. Lionel Messi is set to face England for the first time when Argentina meet them in Wednesday’s World Cup semi-final. (https://www.enca.com/sport/messi-meet...) And finally, Hollywood is mourning Sam Neill, (https://www.enca.com/lifestyle/co-sta...) who died in Australia aged 78. A former co-star says the Jurassic Park actor had battled pneumonia before his sudden death. His family said he was cancer-free after treatment for lymphoma.
