I',m an Army Reservist, and in this video, I’m giving you a complete inside look at a typical weekend in the Army Reserve. From early morning PT to duty assignments, trainings, and team briefings, I’ll break down the full schedule so you know exactly what to expect. Army Reserve life is unique because you balance civilian life with military responsibilities. Once a month, we come together for two or three days—commonly called drill weekends or battle assemblies. My unit is a legal unit, which includes Army JAG officers and enlisted paralegals, but the general structure of a weekend is similar for most units. Here’s a glimpse of what a weekend looks like: • 6:30 a.m.: PT or PT tests with the unit • 7:30–9:00 a.m.: Personal hygiene, breakfast, and preparation • 9:00 a.m.: Morning briefing and review of the day’s schedule • 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m.: Duty assignments, training, or mission-critical work • 12:00–1:00 p.m.: Lunch (provided for enlisted Soldiers, officers pay for their own) • 1:00–4:30 p.m.: Afternoon duties, additional training, online metrics, or appointments • 4:30–5:00 p.m.: Final formation, commander’s briefing, and release If you travel far, the Army provides hotels, per diem for meals, and mileage for travel. Some units also organize social activities after the duty day—sometimes called “mandatory fun” or “family dinners.” These are great opportunities to build connections with your teammates while out of uniform. Sunday is usually a repeat of Saturday’s schedule, completing tasks, trainings, and any remaining duties before heading back home. Drill weekends are structured, productive, and designed to keep Soldiers ready for deployment while balancing civilian life.
