Motim a Bordo (Charles Nordhoff, James Norman Hall) I Paulo Darma1970

This book is based on a tragic historical reality: the mutiny aboard the Bounty, a ship of Her Majesty the Queen, which occurred in 1789 in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. This sailing ship, which became famous in the annals of the history of the English Navy, was commanded by Lieutenant William Bligh (1754-1817), a rude and obstinate man who did not hesitate to order severe corporal punishments to be applied to his subordinates, however frivolous the reasons. Not even the officers escaped his wrath; he reprimanded them harshly, even in front of the sailors, thus diminishing their authority over their subordinates. The only fictional character in the book is the narrator, Roger Byam, whose participation in the story was based on the life of midshipman Peter Heywood, who was actually part of the Bounty's crew, but who for this reason was excluded from the narrative. Beyond the bloody history of the mutiny aboard and its antecedents, the book features several love stories, starring crew members and indigenous women. Among these loves, we highlight those between Byam and Tehani, Christian and Maimiti, Stewart and Peggy, and others. The fate of the Bounty and the men who made up its crew influenced the radical transformation, so to speak, of the relationships between superiors and subordinates in the British Navy. Charles Nordhoff and James Norman Hall took an active part in World War I in France as aviators, forming part of the famous Lafayette Squadron. One of them was shot down by the enemy and presumed dead, only to reappear some time later after a series of adventures. After the conflict ended, the two young Americans returned home and, were it not for the fortunate idea of a publisher, neither would have known what direction to take in life. He proposed that they write a novel together recounting the exploits of the Lafayette Squadron. Thus emerged the novel THE FALCONS OF FRANCE, the first in a series of books that made them famous, the most famous of which is undoubtedly THE GREAT MUTINY, a great publishing success. The book was adapted for film and, up to 2009, had two versions.
