Annunci alla Stazione di Desenzano

I apologize for any errors in the announcements (in two Frecciabianca announcements). The Frecciarossa trains are announced as if there were monitors indicating the service level, even though they are not present. The Desenzano del Garda-Sirmione station is located on the Milan-Venice line, on the border between Lombardy and Veneto; it is managed by Centostazioni, which classifies it as a Gold station. The station has three passenger platforms; it was inaugurated on April 12, 1854, along with the Peschiera del Garda bridge over the Mincio River and the Desenzano viaduct. From 1909 to 1969, it was the terminus of the railway to Desenzano Porto. Renovation work on the building was carried out between 2010 and 2013. In addition to the three passenger platforms, there are three more for freight trains or for parking railway maintenance vehicles. From the third track, shortly after the Peschiera-bound turnout where the fourth track joins it, the line branched off to Desenzano Porto station, which has been decommissioned since 1969. Until the 1980s, the short remaining track was used as a feeder for trains from the nearby electrical substation. The passenger building is a rectangular brick building with three levels above ground, only two of which rise above the railhead. During the steam era, the station was equipped with a water tower, consisting of a simple elevated iron cistern supported by concrete pillars. Until the end of the 19th century, an iron canopy with a pitched roof protected the first two tracks from the elements. The station is served by all regional trains on the Brescia-Verona and Brescia-Venice routes, by the Brescia-Venice fast regional trains (and until 2013 also by the Milan-Venice fast regional trains), by the Milan-Verona Regio Express trains, by the Euronight trains connecting Milan Central Station with Munich and Vienna, by some of the few remaining Frecciabianca trains, and by half of the Frecciarossa trains connecting Milan and Turin with Venice and Trieste. There are a ticket office, bar, restrooms, and a waiting room. Finally, the station serves the municipality of Desenzano del Garda, a famous town of approximately 28,000 inhabitants in the province of Brescia.
