“This Was Deep…” Rockfish Fishing Off Point Loma (9 Mile Bank Charter Trip)

We headed offshore out of Point Loma, San Diego for a deep water rockfish trip aboard the F/V Tradition, running a charter through H&M Landing. Our target for the day was the legendary 9-Mile Bank, making repeated deep drops into structure-rich offshore water in search of rockfish. Conditions were steady and the bite came in waves. We managed to boat a few solid rockfish throughout the day, though it wasn’t a wide-open bite or trophy-sized haul—more of a grindy offshore day where every fish had to be worked for. Still, trips like this are what San Diego offshore fishing is all about: long runs, deep drops, and never knowing what’s coming up from the bottom until it breaks the surface.
