Switzerland Cuts Aid As Eritrea Refuses to Take Back Rejected Immigrants | Firstpost Africa | N18G Switzerland is ending its development aid to Eritrea, citing frustrations with the African country’s refusal to take back rejected asylum seekers. Switzerland is working on being able to return rejected asylum seekers to their home country. Eritrea is not prepared to accept them. Switzerland hosts approximately 40,000 Eritreans making them one of the largest refugee groups in the country. Switzerland has spent more over $7 million since 2016 to finance trade training establishments in Eritrea. The aid was designed to motivate the African country to cooperate better on migration and to take back the rejected asylum seekers. But now, an external review commissioned by the Swiss state has shown these goals have not been met.
