How to build a Cyclekart LSD Chain Drive Axle
**Now with Subtitles** How to build an LSD rear axle, for a low powered cyclecar, using freewheels in the wheel hubs. The axle uses a pair of Honda ANF125 (Innova) 1.4" x 17", front wheels which are adapted to use bolt-on drive hubs incorporating the freewheels. The axle is 25mm OD with a 6mm, full length, keyway. The axle is intended for use in low powered applications such as Cyclekarts, cargo trikes. Typical power units are small industrial IC engines (Honda GX160/200), small bike/scooter engines, small electric (EV) motors, and pedal/electric hybrids. The freewheels are 1/8" x 1/2", 20 tooth items with 1.375" x 24tpi internal threads(rh). Special keyed axle adaptors screw into the freewheels to transmit drive from the axle via the freewheels to the wheels. The freewheels are mounted to the wheels using aluminium alloy hubs which bolt to the wheels using their existing mounting holes for the Honda's 220mm disc rotors. The disc rotors are retained and are sandwiched between the freewheel mounting hubs and the wheel hubs. The Honda ANF125 front wheels were used, in preference to the rear ones, as they are easier to adapt and to retain the disc rotors. The ANF125 wheels are a lot easier to source compared to the Honda CT90 which are getting scarce.
