9 Arrested, 12 Vehicles Seized as Suffolk Police Swarm Street Racing Event in East Farmingdale

EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Suffolk County Police arrested nine people, seized 12 vehicles, and issued dozens of summonses after breaking up an illegal street racing event in East Farmingdale late Friday night. According to Suffolk County Police, the illegal gathering began at approximately 11:40 p.m. Friday on Central Avenue. The department's Street Takeover Task Force, assisted by officers from the First Precinct, responded to the scene and shut down the event. Police said nine drivers were arrested, 12 vehicles were impounded, and officers issued 46 traffic summonses during the enforcement operation. The seized vehicles will remain impounded as evidence and may ultimately be subject to forfeiture. Authorities have not yet released the identities of those arrested. All nine are scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip at a later date. Following the crackdown, dozens of participants were seen leaving the area on foot, with many calling for rides after their vehicles had been impounded. Police were also observed documenting the scene, photographing tire marks consistent with "donuts" at the intersection of Central Avenue and Central Drive, where the illegal car meet took place. Witnesses who spoke with Priority News Network reported seeing vehicles racing up and down Central Avenue before a large police response flooded the area and brought the activity to an abrupt end. A significant police presence remained on scene into the early morning hours Saturday as tow trucks removed the impounded vehicles from the dead-end street. The investigation remains ongoing, and Suffolk County Police said additional information, including the identities of those arrested, is expected to be released. The enforcement operation is the latest in Suffolk County Police's ongoing effort to crack down on illegal street racing and street takeover events across the county. Launched in November 2024, the Suffolk County Police Department's Street Takeover Task Force was later established as a permanent unit dedicated to combating illegal street racing, street takeovers, and coordinated illegal car meets. Since its inception, the specialized unit has disrupted more than 93 illegal street takeovers, issued over 9,300 summonses, made 70 arrests, and impounded or seized 113 vehicles connected to reckless driving and unlawful speed contests. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 📍 Breaking News From New York (New York City & Long Island) 🌐 WEBSITE: https://www.theprioritynewsnetwork.com/ 📲 FOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM:   / prioritynewsnetwork   ✅ FOLLOW US ON TIK TOK:   / prioritynewsnetwork   🎥 LICENSE OUR CONTENT: https://www.theprioritynewsnetwork.co...
