Typhoon Dolphin became a powerful tropical storm in the western Central Pacific Ocean on the morning of July 28th. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) predicts Dolphin will become a severe typhoon by July 30th, the third typhoon of this intensity in the western Pacific this year. Notably, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the U.S. Navy also forecasts Dolphin to reach Category 5 super typhoon intensity on the same day, July 30th. With no expected contact with land for at least the next 7 days, the potential super typhoon Dolphin is likely to continue strengthening, becoming one of the most intense storms ever recorded in history. This is a worrying weather development that needs to be closely monitored. While Typhoon Dolphin is developing rapidly at sea, mainland Vietnam is facing a period of widespread heavy rain. According to information from the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, from the afternoon of July 27th to the end of the night of July 28th, the Northern region will experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms over a wide area. Notably, the entire mountainous and midland areas, including Cao Bang province and the western part of Lang Son province, are forecast to have moderate to heavy rain with rainfall amounts generally ranging from 70-120mm.
