Eclipso Wasn’t About "The Darkness Within" | Justice League
In the comics, Eclipso began as a literal shadow cast across Bruce Gordon’s face, representing the darkness within. A Jekyll-and-Hyde figure tied to eclipses, rage, and suppressed impulses, he later evolved into a god of vengeance during Darkness Within, possessing heroes like Wonder Woman and Green Lantern through the Heart of Darkness. But when Justice League adapted him in the episode Eclipsed, something fundamental changed. The DC Animated Universe streamlined Eclipso into a more external threat: an ancient curse, a black diamond, the Ophidians, and a plan to blot out the sun. The psychological duality was removed. The darkness wasn’t inside anyone, it was something to fight, outrun, and ultimately defeat through teamwork. So what was gained, and what was lost? Let’s talk about how adaptations change themes, and how Justice League shifted Eclipso from introspective horror to a story about solidarity, courage, and collaboration. In the comics, darkness was something inside us, while in the cartoon, it’s something we overcome together. 🔔 Subscribe for more in-depth reviews and analyses of your favourite DC cartoons and comic books! 👍 If you liked the video don't forget to like, share, and leave a comment! 🔔 Click the bell icon to stay updated on future content! 🌟 Become a member for exclusive perks and early access! / @serumlake 🎶 Music by Katt Strike - listen to the whole track here: • Ambient Batman Music by @KattStrike | Bat...
