How To Take A Sideline Cut In Hurling

In this video, you'll learn how to take a sideline cut in hurling and how to avoid some common mistakes. Video transcript: Hey, I’m David from Play Hurling and this is how you take a sideline cut. A sideline cut is performed when the ball goes out of bounds from the sideline, which seems pretty obvious. The first step is to position the ball on a tuft of grass to give the ball a bit more lift when you hit it. So, I’ve found my tuft of grass here. I’m going to stand a few feet away from the ball and tilt my hurl from this angle to around about here. And as I’m swinging, I’m going to take a few steps forward and lunge into the ball. So, to put it all together. I’m a couple feet away from the ball where it’s placed on a tuft of grass. I have my hurl tilted like this. I’m in position to have my non-dominant leg beside the ball. I’m going to take a couple steps and hit it now. A common mistake is not lunging down far enough, so when you’re performing this, you want to get as close to the ball and follow through with your swing. Another common mistake is focusing too much on hitting the ball far. What you want to do is make a powerful connection between the hurl and the sliotar.
