Różnorodność w spektrum autyzmu, czyli w kontrze do stereotypów
"If you've met one person on the autism spectrum, you've met one person on the autism spectrum." The autism spectrum isn't just one picture, one type of behavior, or one level of functioning. It's a vast diversity of experiences, needs, resources, and difficulties, different for each person, even if the diagnosis is the same. Stereotypes about a lack of social needs, being isolated in one's own world, and the inability to build relationships are not only untrue but also cause real harm—at school, at work, at home, and in accessing appropriate support. In this animation, we show why moving beyond tunnel vision about autism is so important, especially for people on the spectrum, but also for their families and everyone who wants to truly understand, not just assume. The "On the Spectrum of Facts Instead of Fear" project is a response to the wave of misinformation about the autism spectrum that has appeared in public space in recent months—both in international media and in Poland. False and unsubstantiated theories about the alleged causes of autism have caused significant anxiety among parents and caregivers of children on the spectrum, leading to increased anxiety, guilt, and confusion, particularly among families in the early stages of diagnosis or just before diagnosis. The project aims to provide fast, accessible, and reliable psychoeducational and psychological support based on current scientific knowledge and the Aleklasa Foundation's extensive experience working with neurodiverse families. The project aims to counteract misinformation by clarifying the facts, explaining the mechanisms of autism spectrum disorder, and strengthening parents' sense of security and empowerment. Three complementary activities are being implemented within the project: 👉 The first is the development and sharing of the First Step Package, which includes an educational brochure, a set of infographics, and short videos. 👉 The second element of the project is online first-contact consultations for parents and caregivers experiencing anxiety, guilt, or information overload. 👉 The third initiative is online support groups for parents of children on the autism spectrum. 👉 The project is implemented online and available free of charge to families across Poland, including those in smaller towns where access to specialized psychological and psychoeducational support can be limited. The materials developed as part of the project will remain available on the Aleklasa Foundation's website even after its completion, providing a lasting source of reliable knowledge for parents, professionals, and those interested in neurodiversity. 👉 The "In the Spectrum of Facts Instead of Fear" project is based on the belief that access to reliable information, reliable psychoeducation, and the opportunity to talk with others in a similar situation have a real impact on reducing anxiety levels and counteracting the stigmatization of families of children on the autism spectrum. Its goal is to empower parents through knowledge, support, and a sense of security, especially during times when they are most vulnerable to overload and misinformation.
