This was the second (and final) performance by the ANA Haneda Orchestra from the Niigata Airport "Sky Day" commemorative event in 2025. Even musically talented people can play other instruments. It seems like they could easily produce a beautiful tone on a real sanshin. It's not often that you're moved by the instrumental "Shimanin no Takara," but I was moved by the inclusion of sign language. Perhaps the dancers were kachashi. While men usually clasp their hands, they were adorable, like cats. I just realized something a little tricky: "Iiya-sasa" is always explained as a kind of interjection in Okinawa and has no meaning, so I never really questioned it. But it's not that it's meaningless; perhaps it originally had meaning, but it became a mere formality that only remained in the context of its use. If you remove the last "sa" from "Iiyasasa," it becomes "Iiyasasa." "Iiyasasa," everyone along the coast of western Toyama Prefecture!! "Iiyasasa" is a call often uttered at festivals and auspicious occasions along the coast of western Toyama Prefecture, and in Noto it becomes "yasasa." In some regions it's also called "Iyasakasaa." It does have the same meaning: "yasakaeru" (to flourish forever). It means to flourish forever. They're used in almost the same situations, so they're almost interchangeable. They must be from the same root. Incidentally, yasaka is found all over the country, and one theory is that it originates from the Hebrew "Iiyasaka." When I played the sanshin, I visited sanshin clubs all over the country and even visited a club in Niigata City, and I'm sure the members of that club probably flew to Okinawa on flights from Niigata Airport.
