He was born in Kempten in 1962. After graduating from high school, he initially served as a reserve officer at the Prinz-Franz Barracks in Kempten. He eventually studied law and political science at LMU Munich and, just ten years later, was working as a public prosecutor in Kempten. His responsibilities there focused primarily on organized crime, drug offenses, and gambling.
