Kallitype Print: Holy Ascension Ukrainian Church
The Holy St. Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Church, was located a few kilometres north of Melfort, Saskatchewan, was a notable example of the many Ukrainian immigrant churches dotting the Canadian prairies. St. Ascension, I’m told, was knocked down a few months ago, by it’s owner and the rubble burned. The cemetery survived. I took many photographs of it over many years. The image that I am printing today, was photographed in the Summer of 2018. A Storm was brewing, potentially leading to a tornado! It basically was a grab shot, not having the luxury of time to carefully compose the shot. As the wind was picking up, I grabbed the shot on HP5 4x5, and got the heck out of there! Six years later, I'm finally printing it. I will use the Kallitype process.
