Productos de apoyo que ayudan a una alimentación autónoma (Hospital Aita Menni)
Today, people with disabilities have access to a wide variety of assistive products that help them live more independently. An assistive product is any instrument, equipment, or system used to prevent, compensate for, or mitigate a limitation or disability. Eating assistive products are items that enable many people, especially those with restricted mobility in one or both upper limbs, to eat and drink, as well as to prepare and serve their food. In the adapted home of Aita Menni, we find cutlery, plates, glasses, cups, etc. Cutlery can serve different functions or uses, so it is manufactured with different materials and shapes. A good example is the Nelson knife; this single piece combines a knife and fork, allowing for one-handed cutting and piercing. As for plates, we also have various options. These melamine plates are designed to assist people who can only use one hand. We also have plates with an inner rim to easily collect food without spilling and to guide it towards the mouth. We also offer plate rims that fit flat plates, making it easier to load the spoon by resting it on them. For motor difficulties, we have cups with two handles, a bottom handle, or weights at the bottom to prevent them from falling. For swallowing difficulties, very common in people with acquired brain injury, we have cups with a lid and spout to reduce the tilt required to drink. We also have cups with a perforated lid and a feeding tube, very useful for people with tremors. Finally, we have cups with a notch for dysphagia, which helps people who have difficulty swallowing. Drinking and lowering the chin towards the chest allows time for the normal swallowing mechanisms to function. The design prevents liquids from escaping the lips and directs them towards the center of the mouth. There are other aids, such as this liquid pouring stand, which allows patients with tremors or dexterity problems to pour water, milk, etc., without spilling. Other assistive products include the Swedish board, for holding and cutting, the spreading board, and the lid opener, very useful for opening jars of preserves for those with greater weakness. Another commonly used device for patients with hemiplegia is the pan rest, which allows the pan to be secured to the stovetop or burner while preparing food. In addition, there are various products for cleaning cookware with one hand, such as the brushes shown here. Furthermore, it is advisable to store less frequently used kitchen utensils at the back of drawers, in cabinets, or on the most inaccessible shelves, keeping those used daily more readily available. And finally, we mustn't forget that there are risks in the kitchen; from cleaning chemicals to sharp objects, electrical appliances... to which people with disabilities are more vulnerable. Extreme care and safety measures must be taken. http://xn--daocerebral-2db.es/publica...
