Zapomnij o klasycznych archetypach! Lepszy sposób na NPC na sesji - Power Of | Poradnik Mistrza Gry
Today, we're taking you on a journey through character psychology and NPC creation. Most of us are familiar with classic archetypes from screenwriting and pop culture – such as the Mentor (Gandalf), the Shapeshifter (Snape), or the Trickster. In this video, however, we're showcasing a completely different approach, one that's ideal for role-playing games. We explore the "Nine Character Types" ("Power Of") method, developed by Hollywood screenwriter Laurie Hutzler. Instead of focusing on a character's function in the plot, this technique relies on behavioral constructs and the protagonist's inner imperatives. We discuss how profiles such as Power of Love (focus on relationships and sacrifice, but with a hidden jealousy), Power of Ambition (the end justifies the means), and Power of Reason (a cool rationalization of reality) work. We explain why understanding what drives a given character (whether PC or NPC) makes improvisation incredibly easier. When you know what "Power Of" your NPC represents (e.g., the bartender at the tavern), it becomes natural to invent their dialogue lines, play out their fears, and generate conflicts that fuel the emotions at the RPG table!
