GCF in Central Asia: Strengthening resilience for Aral Sea-dependent communities and livelihoods
Climate change is putting livelihoods, food security, and water resources at risk across the Aral Sea Basin. As the first GCF-financed project in Central Asia, the 'Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Program for the Aral Sea Basin' helped over 205,000 of the poorest and most climate-vulnerable rural people in Tajikistan and Uzbekistan adapt to the impacts of the Aral Sea drying up - through climate-smart micro-projects such as greenhouses, orchards, and land restoration.
