The region is more green, luscious and rainy compared to other regions of Spain. Our first stop in Galicia was the coastal city of Vigo. A lovely city in its own right, it also acts as the main transport hub to our other major destination in Galicia, the Cíes Islands. The Cíes Islands form part of the Atlantic Islands National Park, and is filled with beautiful beaches and wildlife, notably birdlife. After our time visiting Vigo and the Cíes Islands, we headed to the capital city of Galicia: Santiago de Compostela. Santiago de Compostela is known for being the final destination of the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route, and the alleged burial site of the Biblical apostle St. James. From Santiago de Compostela we headed north along the rugged Costa da Morte in the northwestern region of Galicia. We stopped at the Playa de los Cristales as well as the beautiful Playa de las Catedrales.
