The film features Wagner Moura, Fernanda Torres, Lázaro Ramos, Camila Pitanga, and Paulo José. Jorge Furtado, born in Porto Alegre in 1959, is one of the leading names in contemporary Brazilian and Rio Grande do Sul cinema, known for combining humor, social criticism, and metalanguage. Founder of Casa de Cinema de Porto Alegre, he distinguished himself with award-winning short films such as Ilha das Flores (1989), winner of the Silver Bear in Berlin, Esta Não é a Sua Vida (1991), and O Dia em Que Dorival Enfrentou a Guarda (1986), as well as the feature film O Homem que Copiava (2003). In *Saneamento Básico*, Furtado transforms structural precariousness and improvisation into an allegory of Brazilian cinema itself, which, despite the lack of resources, continues to exist through the creativity, irony, and resilience of its filmmakers.
