It’s been a while since I last traveled down to the Jeonbuk region for some business. Since I was already heading there, I decided to visit the recently popular Hwangdeung Quarry in Iksan as well.^^ What an absolutely breathtaking view.💖💖👍👍 Hwangdeung Quarry in Iksan, South Korea Hwangdeung Quarry is a massive granite quarry located in Hwangdeung-myeon, Iksan, Jeonbuk. Its enormous cliffs and emerald-colored lake create a truly unique landscape. Years of quarrying have shaped the area into scenery that resembles the impact site of a giant meteorite. Recently, it has gained nationwide attention through social media and drone videos as a rising tourist attraction. The city of Iksan is currently promoting a cultural and tourism development project for the area. Around 32 billion KRW is planned to be invested in phases through 2031. Major plans include observatories, walking trails, media art, exhibition spaces, and visitor facilities. The quarry’s dramatic cliff formations themselves are also being considered as tourism content. Projects linked with the traditional Hwangdeung Market are also underway to revitalize regional tourism. In the future, the site is expected to evolve into a stay-type tourist destination with night lighting and drone photo spots.
