A more serious cause is human economic greed. The grazing of goats surged in pursuit of high-priced cashmere, and the goats' habit of digging up and eating even grass roots rapidly turned the grasslands into barren land. As the government banned grazing and implemented relocation policies to prevent desertification, residents who had lived a nomadic life for generations lost their livelihoods. Having lost their livestock and drifted into refugee camps in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, these nomads barely manage to make a living on a daily wage of just over 20,000 won and through their young children's street vending; however, lacking land to settle on, they are constantly on the move.
