Southwest Magazine: Gord Willett on the 2026 NB Woodcarving Competition and Sale

For one weekend every August, St. Andrews becomes Atlantic Canada's capital of woodcarving as artists, collectors and enthusiasts gather for one of the region's premier carving events. The 20th Annual New Brunswick Woodcarving Competition and Sale returns August 7–9, 2026, transforming Sir James Dunn Academy into a showcase of extraordinary craftsmanship. Hosted by the New Brunswick Woodcarving Association, the event welcomes carvers from across the Maritimes and beyond to compete for cash and purchase awards while celebrating the art and tradition of woodcarving. Open to the public on Saturday and Sunday, the weekend features hundreds of hand-carved works, live demonstrations, workshops, chainsaw carving, raffles, a large silent auction and family-friendly activities, making it a destination for seasoned carvers and curious newcomers alike. Association member Gord Willett sits down with host Vicki Hogarth to discuss woodcarving, the evolution of the event over the past two decades, and why St. Andrews has become a must-visit destination for woodcarvers from across the region. Original broadcast date: July 16, 2026 Southwest Magazine is an original CHCO Television production taped on location at the CHCO-TV studio in Saint Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada.
