Minshawi's Lost Quran Recitations | Tape 29/32 | Surah al-Najm (v31) to Surah al-Rahman (v78)

In 1965, Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣiddīq al-Minshāwī, raḥimahullāh, recorded the entire Qur'ān across 82 tapes in the riwāyah of Ḥafṣ 'an 'Āṣim. A committee of al-Azhar's most senior scholars reviewed every word. They praised it and certified it. Then he listened to it himself. On 2 March 1966, he wrote a letter to the General Controller of Cultural Programmes at Egyptian Radio asking to re-record 32 of those tapes. Not because the committee had found fault. Because his own conscience had not yet found peace with what he had offered to the Kitāb Allāh. He asked for no payment and pledged to cover every cost from his own pocket. These are his own words: "I have listened to the khatmah recorded in my voice in the riwāyah of Ḥafṣ 'an 'Āṣim, and I have seen that in order to complete this khatmah in the way I feel achieves the desired perfection for the purpose for which it was recorded, I should re-record the tapes detailed below. This re-recording will be without payment, and I pledge to bring the review committee at my own expense." — Muḥammad Ṣiddīq al-Minshāwī, 2 March 1966 The committee approved what they described as his pursuit of perfection. He re-recorded all 32 tapes. On 19 August 1967, the committee listened to every one of them, praised them, and certified them. Then they were filed away. For sixty years, while the world listened to the version al-Minshāwī was never fully satisfied with, these tapes sat in an archive, recovered only through an old register. Egypt's Holy Qur'ān Radio began broadcasting them on 1 June 2026. Shaykh Muḥammad Ṣiddīq al-Minshāwī returned to his Lord on Friday, 20 June 1969. He was forty-nine years old. He never heard these tapes broadcast to the world. This is the recitation he believed was worthy of the Qur'ān al-Karīm.
