BBC Radio 1's "In Concert" series is a program that features live recordings of musical performances, often from established artists. These performances are broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and sometimes released as live albums. The series has a rich history, showcasing a diverse range of genres and artists over the years. The BBC broadcast its ‘In Concert’ programmes in two formats – radio and television, although sometimes the two crossed-over and combined. This recording comes from live performance at Hammersmith Odeon in west London (a live entertainment performance venue, originally built as a cinema). It was the last performance for British leg of KajaGooGoo Islands Tour 1984. The BBC Transcription Services started life in the mid-1930s as the London Transcription Service, it's now called BBC Radio International. BBC Transcription Services discs were only made available to overseas radio stations for broadcast purposes and were not made available for sale to the general public. However, in the early 90s many international BBC libraries sold their stocks to the public. The programmes covered every part of the BBC's output, including all types of music, drama, religious and children's programmes and comedy. Typically BBC Transcription Services pressed 100 copies of each disc only with instructions to the overseas radio network to destroy the disc at the end of the licence period. This particular vinyl of BBC Transcription Services with KajaGooGoo (CN 4432/S, In Concert 336) was released internally on 27 August 1984. Broadcast was done live on BBC Radio 1 on 3 July 1984. It has never been re-aired since its original broadcast, opposite to similar BBC Transcription vinyl with KajaGooGoo from 1983: In Concert 310.
