I Left BookTube Alone for 5 Minutes and Kevin Left and Already Came Back

Apparently when you vanish from BookTube for a while there’s a rule that says you have to come back and explain yourself. So… here we are. This isn’t really a dramatic comeback video. Think of it more like a postcard from the chaos. The past few months have been full of grant deadlines, teaching an asynchronous course that somehow produces a small mountain of videos every week, and the very smart decision to start a second YouTube channel in the middle of all of that. Along the way I’ve learned a few things: Accessible teaching videos take a shocking amount of time to make. Academic projects rarely end neatly. Energy is a finite resource. And apparently my hobbies now operate on a one-year completion schedule. So this video is just a quick check-in about where things have been, what life has looked like off-camera, and what’s likely coming next on the channel. There’s also a growing pile of half-edited footage sitting on my hard drive that I intend to finally push across the finish line. In the meantime, thank you to everyone who has been tagging me in things, leaving comments, and generally keeping this strange little corner of the internet alive. :: CHAPTERS :: 00:00 Apparently This Is a Life Update 01:17 Kevin Towles Has Completed a Full Migration Cycle 02:02 Grants, Deadlines, and Academic Meshugganah 04:04 The Extremely Good Idea to Start a Second Channel 06:10 How to Accidentally Produce 5 Videos a Week 08:22 The “Why Am I Exhausted” Medical Tour 09:07 Confession: The BookTuber Has Not Been Reading 10:02 Sourdough, Sweaters, and Other Non-Internet Activities 12:18 The Hard Drive Full of Half-Edited Videos #BookTube #BookTubeCommunity #BookTuber #LifeUpdate #WhereIveBeen #ReadingLife #BookishYouTube #ProfessorLife #AcademicLife #TeachingOnline #ContentCreatorLife #ReadingCommunity #BookishChat #YouTubeCreators #DrCrankyPantsReads
