Ag Plane Air Tractor AT400 crop duster and wind turbines in Iowa

While driving country roads in Iowa in August 2024, we encountered an agplane pilot and his Air Tractor AT400 masterfully negotiating the terrain, structures, and a forest of giant wind turbines. Telephoto lens compression may make the windmills seem even closer; on this day and location, the agplane and the wind turbines coexisted. Nonetheless, agplane advocates have concerns about the proliferation of wind turbines in farmland. The National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA) says they are concerned that the placement of wind turbines and other towers on farmland can make it dangerous for ag planes in some situations. It is also interesting to note that ag planes can be used for seeding and fertilizing, not just pest control.
