Saudi Arabia has declared its readiness to take decisive action to protect merchant vessels passing through the Red Sea. The statement came after Yemen's Houthi group announced a maritime blockade against the kingdom. Riyadh condemned the threat as a violation of international law and will respond to any attempt to disrupt freedom of navigation in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world's most strategic trade routes. Saudi-led Arab Coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said all Houthi threats against vessels passing through the strait are a blatant violation of international law and constitute acts of piracy.
