We know they are B61-type "gravity bombs," the kind dropped from a bomber aircraft, like the one dropped on Hiroshima. However, because there are so many different versions of B61s, we don't know the power of ours. If it's an older model, it could be a small tactical nuclear bomb, around 300 tons, about 1/50th the weight of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. Or, if it's a modern and powerful version like the B61-12, it could be 50 kilotons, 3-3.5 times more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima. There are also 1.5 kiloton and 10 kiloton versions of these bombs; they could be either of those or a combination of the two. We don't know. We don't know because those bombs don't belong to us. They belong to America. And America, for strategic reasons, refuses to disclose their number and type. These bombs are currently located at Incirlik Air Base in Adana—and, of course, thanks to cryptography, policy, and procedural mechanisms, they are stored so that they can only be dropped from American aircraft with America's request and approval. There are a host of problems with this, of course, but one is this: American President Trump has ordered the immediate restart of America's nuclear bomb tests, which have been halted since 1992. This will very likely result in a new nuclear arms race and put the entire world, especially countries like Turkey, which possess nuclear bombs (but have no control over them), at much greater risk.
