Setup & Programming Turn Mill B Axis Lathes in ShopTurn for Sinumerik 840D & 828

Mixed technology machine tools are becoming more popular every year in manufacturing. The process of combining milling and turning operations on the same machine tool not only improves part quality, but also reduces manufacturing time. The challenge however, is programming such a complex machine. Once a B axis rotary is added this now becomes a 5 axis machine tool. The Sinumerik control, utilizing ShopTurn, has unique functionality designed specifically for this task. In this webinar we will have an opportunity to explore real world programming examples that will take advantage of a 5 axis Turn-Mill. First we will utilize a common turning tool to jump between the main spindle and counter spindle. A simple orientation of the B axis and positioning of the milling spindle allow you to get the most out of your tooling. Next we will explore milling operations on compound angles using the Cycle800 “swivel cycle” command. Once complete, attendees will have the confidence to apply this technology in their current challenges.
