We're in the Pontic Greek Society section of our Harmful Societies series... These harmful societies were the most significant indicators that the Ottoman Empire was nearing its end. The Ottoman Empire lost World War I. It was already in its death throes before the war. After the war, there was no army or security left. Frankly, everyone, except the impoverished Turks in Anatolia who desperately awaited the fateful end, attacked like hyenas trying to tear a piece from the moribund Ottomans. While all this was happening, while the country was being gnawed at from within, Vahdettin sat on his throne, and the government he established was supposedly at work.
