RISPARMIARE per allenarsi con costanza.
How much does a track day on your Superbike really cost? Track day registration, fuel, tires, insurance, transportation, lunch at the circuit. Do the math, and you'll easily arrive at €800-€1,000—and that's if everything goes well, with no crashes or damage. That's the minimum threshold for racing a 1000cc motorcycle in 2026, and most of that money doesn't make you a better rider: it just gives you permission to ride the track. In this episode of bikes4eddie, I decided to test an alternative that professional riders have always used—and that most amateurs ignore: training on 12-inch-wheeled motorcycles, known as miniMotos, pitbikes, or training minibikes. I went to Busca, in Piedmont, to spend a full day with Roberto Rolfo—a former World Superbike and Supersport rider, one of the most experienced Italian riders internationally—to see firsthand whether this type of training really works, and above all, how much it costs compared to a traditional track day. The result surprised me. After three hours of intensive sessions with the 12-inch, my arms are tired, my legs have worked, my back has done its job—it's not a simulator, it's not the gym: it's real riding, with real physical effort. But above all, I've learned things about my riding technique that I'd never seen in years of track riding. I discovered a tendency to delay opening the throttle after the apex—and I realized it on the fifth turn, not after who knows how many days. Because with the miniMoto, you can't hide: every mistake is immediately reflected back to you, without mediation and without the filter of 200 horsepower covering everything. The lines are the same. The weight transfers are the same. The late braking, the lean turns, the feeling with the front—everything is identical, to scale. And that's exactly why the world's best riders—from Marc Marquez to Francesco Bagnaia—still use them today to warm up, to refine their feeling, to work on technique without risking their bike or emptying their wallet. In economic terms: the day at Busca with Roberto Rolfo—course included—cost me a fraction of a traditional track day. We're talking a net difference of 700-800 euros per outing. Multiply that by the number of days you do in a year and you immediately understand why this isn't second-rate training: it's a professional tool that pros use, and that you, as an amateur rider, are probably ignoring. In this episode, you'll find: a detailed cost comparison between track days on a 1000cc motorcycle and pitbike training, my firsthand experience on the track with Roberto Rolfo in Busca, a real interview during training on why 12-inch wheels work for adult riders too, the technical benefits of training with a miniMoto compared to riding a full-size bike, and practical tips for getting started if you've never tried this type of training. If you're an amateur rider who races a Supersport or Superbike, if you're looking for a way to improve your riding without blowing your budget at every track day, or if you simply want to understand why World Championship professionals train with small wheels—this episode is for you. 🔔 Subscribe to bikes4eddie to never miss future episodes about the world of motorcycles, track training, and Italian motorsport culture. 💬 Have you tried pitbikes or minibikes for training yet? Let me know in the comments—I want to know how it went. 📍 The day was filmed in Busca (CN), Piedmont, at Roberto Rolfo's facility.
