The second lecture is dedicated to the Classical era. We'll learn how music became more "human," beginning to convey feelings and thoughts, and also discuss the triumph of the tonal system and the first attempts to "destabilize" it. We'll explore why Mozart's works can be used to treat the nervous system, and why Beethoven is considered the first "composer" and a revolutionary. Gnessin Russian Academy of Music student Igor Popov will explain the rules by which music was created back then and why the right context was essential for its perception in those days. We'll also explore the theory of musical topos and where it is applied. This three-lecture series is dedicated to the history of music and an analysis of composers' thinking from the Middle Ages to the present day. We'll explore musical phenomena, discover the reasons for the "simplification" of music, how it emerged, and what it has been like in different eras.
