Why I Chose a 13mm Over a 90mm for Wedding Photography | Philosophy of Photography Ep. 1

I was torn between two very different lenses: the Viltrox AF 13mm f/1.4 XF (20mm equivalent) and the Fujifilm XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR (135mm equivalent). Both lenses solve completely different problems. The 90mm is a classic portrait lens — compression, reach, and that “sniper” look. The 13mm is a storytelling lens — wide, immersive, and designed to put the viewer inside the moment. As a wedding photographer, I take a lot of portraits, so why did I choose the wider lens? In this video I talk about: Why I chose a 13mm over a 90mm How wide angle lenses tell a different kind of story Compression vs perspective distortion Why context matters in wedding photography How I use wide lenses to capture couples, guests, details, and reactions My Fuji wedding photography lens setup For me, photography has always been about more than just making a beautiful image — it’s about preserving the story. The people, the place, and the moment all matter.
