When people think of skateboarding fundamentals, they often picture ollies and kickflips. However, skateboarding is fundamentally a "vehicle," not a "trick." Pushing to move forward. Braking. Turning. Controlling your direction of travel. That's the foundation, and tricks like ollies, kickflips, and 50-50 grinds are built upon it. It's like figure skating, where jumps are built upon skating. This video also discusses stance and running pushes. In the future, when you'll be jumping stairs, or entering rails and curves, you'll need the technique to quickly push, set your stance, crouch, and execute tricks within a limited run-up. This knowledge might not be immediately necessary. Nevertheless, knowing that "there are these ways of riding and thinking about skateboarding" will definitely be helpful as you improve.
