Reform of New Zealand’s Building Sector: Facilitating the Use of Overseas Building Products Webinar
Webinar (12/05/26) from the European Union Delegation to New Zealand, in partnership with the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE). Programme: Opening remarks H.E. Lawrence Meredith, Ambassador of the European Union to New Zealand Presentation, followed by Q&A MBIE – Sophie Cunningham, Manager, Building Regulatory Services Liz Ashwin, Technical Lead, Building Regulatory Delivery Reforms to New Zealand’s building sector are underway. As part of efforts to expand consumer choice, reduce costs and strengthen supply chain resilience, the government is reviewing how building materials are approved for use. These changes create opportunities for overseas suppliers to enter the market. The New Zealand Government has introduced three new pathways to make it easier to use overseas building products: Building Product Specifications Endorsed Standards Approved Products Certified Overseas This webinar provides an overview of the new pathways introduced and will explain opportunities for recognising Approved Products Certified Overseas products and methods. Products that are recognised as an Approved Product Certified Overseas by MBIE will be deemed to comply with the Building Code and must be accepted for use by building consent authorities, provided they meet conditions relating to intended use and documentation. This session also introduces a new Expression of Interest and self-assessment process to help product suppliers and manufacturers access the Approved Products Certified Overseas pathway.
